About the Consulate

Consul General

Glen Askew is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Prior to his appointment as Consul-General, Surabaya, Mr Askew was an Assistant Director in the Israel-Gaza Taskforce in Canberra.

Mr Askew joined DFAT in 2007 following a distinguished 22-year career with Victoria Police. He was an International Police Monitor in the US-led stabilisation mission to Haiti in 1994 and a United Nations Police Officer in the UN Mission in East Timor in 2002.

Mr Askew served as Counsellor (Security) in Port Moresby (2021-23) and was Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana from 2016-2021. Mr Askew also served as First Secretary (Political) in Jakarta (2009-11) where he managed Australia’s counter-terrorism program.

Mr Askew was a member of DFAT’s Philippines Kidnapping Taskforce from 2011-2013, where he worked in Australia and the Philippines to secure the safe release of an Australian kidnapping victim.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Deakin University and a Master of Strategic Affairs from the Australian National University. He speaks fluent Indonesian.

The Australian Consulate-General Surabaya is open from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday except for public holidays.
Passport and consular services are by appointment only.  The contact number for appointments for consular services is (+62 31) 9920 3200 and appointments can be made online at https://australianconsulategeneralsurabaya.setmore.com/. Clients will only have access to the Australian Consulate-General by appointment.
