About us

Australian Consul-General Surabaya

     Mr Glen Askew

   Mr Askew is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Assistant   Director,         Israel-Gaza Taskforce.

   He has previously served overseas in Papua New Guinea, Ghana and Indonesia   and was a Peacekeeper with Operation         Uphold Democracy in Haiti and the United Nations Mission of Support   in East Timor (UNMISET) with the Australian                 Federal Police/United Nations.

   Mr Askew holds a Master of Strategic Affairs from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Arts from   Deakin         University. He speaks Indonesian.

Roles of the Australian Embassy and Consulates

In addition to the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, the Australian Government is represented by Consulates-General in Bali, Makassar and Surabaya.

The duties of the Consulates-General are similar to those of the Embassy in that they pursue and promote the full range of Australia's interests in Indonesia.

The Consulates-General are also responsible for the consular protection of Australians residing in or visiting their areas of responsibility:

  • Australian Embassy Jakarta: Jakarta, West Java, Yogyakarta, Sumatera, Riau, Kalimantan except South and East Kalimantan, Papua
  • Australian Consulate-General Bali: Bali, NTB, NTT
  • Australian Consulate-General Makassar: Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, South and East Kalimantan
  • Australian Consulate-General Surabaya: East Java, Central Java

Message from the Consul-General

Since opening in 2017, the Consulate-General in Surabaya has fostered stronger business, education, people-to-people and cultural links between Australia and the Indonesian provinces of Central Java and East Java, which have a combined population of around 70 million people.

The Consulate-General has a strong focus on building economic partnership opportunities, including in education, agriculture and manufacturing.

Opening hours

The Australian Consulate-General Surabaya is open from 8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday except for public holidays.

Clients will have access to the Australian Consulate-General by appointment only.
